Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, MAY 4, 1929. HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTION.

THE-result of the Palmerston N. Hospital Board election is a tribute to the capable administration of the Board by electors throughout the hospital district which embraces the Horowhenua, Manawatu, Kairanga, Oroua and Kiwitea counties and the boroughs of Palmerston North, Feilding, Foxton, Shannon, Levin and Otaki. "Wlith one exception, all -the sitting memibers who stood for re-election were returned. The Board during the past two years has been subjected to a certain amount of criticism by the Palmerston Borough 'Council which body asked that a commission be set up to inquire into alleged extravagance, which, however, received a. prompt eclipse from the Minister. On the basis of ofiicien'cy and economy the Palmerston North Board stands out in favourable contrast to . any hospital board in the Dominion and that fact has been recognised and appreciated by the hospital district as a whole. DEATH OF SIR JAMES WILSON. When the new Board assembles at an early date it will miss one notable figure who, for close on thirty years, has filled the position as chairman with ability and distinction. We refer to the death this morning, of Sir James Wjilson. It was this gentleman when representing the Manawatu constituency in Parliament who drew up the boundaries of the hospital district and who lias been actively connected with its growth and development since its constitution. His interest, both in the administration of the hoard and in the welfare of the sidle, the aged and needy has never waned. The sacrifices he has made in this connection, his generosity, loyalty and fair dealing with all concerned wdl never be fully estimated. The hospital in large .measure stands as a memorial to his devoted service and his death is both a national and lo- ' c-al loss.
