FINED FOR ASSAULT.

A sequel to an episode which occurred on the night of 31st March took place in the Palmerston North Court, yesterday, when Lionel Clifford Nim'mo (20) was charged with .common assault. The original charge was indecent assault, hut it was reduced on counsel’s application. The accused pleaded guilty. The police statement was that a party of young people, celebrating not wisely, but too well, got considerably the worse for liquor. Apparently there were faults on both sides. Counsel for the accused said that the latter pleaded guilty to avoid publicity to parties concerned. The accused had borne a good character. The Magistrate refused counsel’s suggestion that lie should impose a nominal penalty, and fined Nimmo £5, with costs. An application for suppression of his n'ame was refused.
