PLUNKET CARNIVAL RESULT.

TOTAL RAISED £409/5/1. SPORTS CANDIDATE ON TOP. The votes in.connection with the Plunket Carnival were counted and scrutinised at a wind-up social in the Town Hall on Thursday evening. The total votes and corresponding money value were as follows : —• Sports candidate (Joy Alexander) 12392, representing £154 18s Id. Citizens candidate (Brian Barber) 10492, representing £l3l 3s od. Country candidate (Joan Hunter) 9856, representing £123 4s Od. The total net amount raised was £409 5s Id. The Mayor, in a congratulatory speech, referred to the object of the carnival which latter had been suggested by Mrs. Barron (hon. secretary) at a meeting of the Plunket Society, as a means to provide the Society with its own home. It was thought that possibly a sum of £2OO would he raised, but this objective had been doubled. The various eomlmittees had worked splendidly and were to he congratulated upon the splendid success which had attended their efforts and thanks were due to them and to the country people and the public who had so heartily eoj-operated. 'Complimentary speeches wero made by representatives of the committees. Vocal items were acceptably contributed by Mesdames S. Barber, Doel, Bullard and Misses Pritchard and Martin. Accompaniments and dance music was played by 'Mrs. Ross, Misses McKenzie, Delany, Patterson and Messrs Newton and Corn. Mr. Perreau made an efficient M.C., and the supper arrangements were in the hands of the ladies. The guessing competition as to the amount of money raised was won by Mrs. A. C. Nieol, of Oroua Downs, who submitted £409 11s-Od. On Wednesday afternoon next there will ibe a procession of decorated vehicles, which will proceed from the Post Office to the Town Hull, where presentations will be made to the candidates and the children entertained.
