NO SUBSIDIES ON MAINTENANCE WORK.
CABINET’S DECISION. Cabinet decided on Tuesday against the granting of subsidies on maintenance works carried out by local public bodies. In making a brief announcement to this effect, the Prime Minister (Rt, Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) said that applications had from time to time been received for such subsidies, but in accordance with Cabinet’s decision, subsidies would be available only for the construction of works referred to and approved by the engineer’s.
