CARBONISING COAL

MINISTER, ENTHUSIASTIC, “I aim very enthusiastic about carbonisation,” said the Minister of Mines (Hon. !W. A. Veitck), in discussing this method of dealing with coal when a deputation from the liuntly Town Board waited on him at liuntly on Tuesday night. The Minister added that the government could not do much except encourage the mining companies to establish a plant. He was confident that if one plant was established ethers would soon follow. In spe'akdng at a dinner to the Minister, Mr. E. S. Wright, manag-ing-director of the Pukemiro Collieries, said that a plant could be erected in the Waikato if the companies were unanimous. If the inferior grades could ibe eliminated, there was a great future ahead of the industry.
