Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 1929. LOCAL AND GENERAL.

“In dealing' with public matters and requests which come before me,” said the Hon. T. M. Wilford at Foxton on Wednesday, “I follow the procedure of Earl Grey, who first of all consulted his experts and then drew his own conclusions.”

At a meeting of the ladies of the Presbyterian Church held last Tuesday, it was resolved to hold a sale afternoon on Wednesday, May 29th, in the Town Hall supperroom. A number of novel Reims were arranged for which should make the effort most successful.

“I remember acting as counsel in a case in this old building about a quarter of a century ago,” said the Hon. Mr. Wilford when inspecting the old courthouse last Wednesday. “It seemed to be much larger then than it appears now.” “You have grown since then!” interjected Mr. Hornblow.

Mr. J. K. Hornblow (Board member) opened a school bazaar in the Glen Oroua Hall on Wednesday afternoon. The object of the bazaar was to raise funds for the purchase of a piano and reference library. Stalls, well filled with produce and conducted by an enthusiastic committee, did good business. Over £SO was netted, which, with the B'oard’s subsidy, will-he sufficient to achieve the objects aimed at. In looking through the old courthouse during his recent visit to Foxton, the Hon. T. M. "Wilfor fpiite agreed that the old structure had outlived its usefulness-and that the new building was justified. “I hope no time will be lost in removing what must now be looked upon as an eye-sore,” said the Minister. Constable Owen interjected, that it was very inconvenient to carry on work within its draughty walls at present. The Minister also discussed particulars re provision for storage and clerical accommodation in the new building.
