MILITARY CAMPS.
The Mayor said he desired to bring under the notice of the Minister the fact that the Defence Department had abandoned military ealmps in Foxton. 'Such action had caused considerable local public disappointment. It had been stated by military officers that Foxton was admirably situated for military camps. The Racing lOluib had all the facilities and conveniences on the racecourse for the comfort of the men, the ground was of a sandy nature and therefore more drier than clay country and for tbig gun practice the country towards the sea was very suitable. Apart from this, the townspeople took pleasure in entertaining the men in their spare time. The member for the district could endorse these statements. Mr. Wilford, in reply, said two localities in the North Island had been selected, Ngaruawhaia and Waipufcurau. He would, however, look further into the [matter.
