DOMINION’S FIRST AERIAL PAGEANT.
WITNESSED BY 20,000 PEOPLE. Auckland, April 22. Twelve aeroplanes took part in the Auckland Aero club’s first pageant at Mangere aerodrome on Saturday. The attendance being estimated at 20,000. Excellent displays of formation flying, aerial drill and trick flying were given, concluding with a realistic imitation of an attack on an ammunition dump, which was defended by two aeroplanes and a detachment of infantry and machine gunk Results of the competitions were: — New Zealand Aerial Derby, over a triangular course of 12 miles: — First heat: Captain J. 'Seabrook 1, Major K. Caldwell 2, F. D. Mill 3. Won by three lengths. Three others started. •Second heat: Captain D. Harkness 1, Captain Ewan Dickson 2, Captain J. C. Mercer 3. Won by two lengths. Five other* started. Final: Captain Seabrook (two seconds handicap) 1, Captain •Harkness (ser.) 2, Captain Dickson (five seconds) 3. Won by two lengths. Time, 7min. All competitors placed in the heats of the final flew D.H. Moths. Fly Past and Landing competition: Captain J. L. Findlay 1, Major G. A. Cowper 2, Captain T. W. White 3. All these flew Moths.
