EXPLOSION ON DREDGE KAIONE.
♦ INQUIRY INTO DEATHS. Wanganui, April 22. The inquiry into the explosion on the dredge Kaione and the deaths of Duncan McKinnon and Joseph Cable was concluded to-day before Mr. J. 11. Salmon, S.M., Coroner, who returned a verdict that Cable died as the result of an ex • plosion in the tunnel of Kaione, the cause Of death being a fracture of the base of the skull, a broken neck and other injuries. The 'Coroner said that he was unable on the evidence to say what gases were responsible for the explosion. He also found that McKinnon died from suffocation, resulting from burns sustained in the explosion.
