SEQUEL TO MOTOR ACCIDENT.
YOUTH CHARGED WITH DRIVING WITHOUT LICENSE. A sequel to the motor accident which occurred on the Beach Rd. last month, resulting in W,. Hirini sustaining a broken thigh, was heard in the local S.M. Court this morning before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., when Tap Taylor, a local Native youth, was charged with, not being the holder of a driver’s license, having driven a motor lorry on the Beach Rr. on Sunday, March 3rd. Constable Owen, in evidence, said that on the date in question, a life saving demonstration was being held at the seaside and while on his Way to the beach he came upon a motor lorry capsized on the side of the road. As a result of the accident one of the party on the lorry had been seriously injured and was now in hospital. Witness made inquiries into the accident from those present but discovered that some of the party were missing. Statements subsequently taken showed that a Native named Chaffey McDonald had arranged to convey a number of local Natives to the seaside on his lorry and the statements showed that McDonald was driving at the time of the mishap hut further inquiries made hy witness disclosed the fact that Taylor, who knew nothing! about a car and who had no license, was driving - . When taxed with the fact, Taylor admitted that lie had been driving and not knowing much about it, the vehicle had capsized when negotiating a bend. The S.M. imposed a fine of £1 with costs 10/-.
