DORCAS SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Foxton Dorcas Society was held on Friday afternoon when there were present Revs. W. H. Walton (in the chair), Edmondson, W. 11. Nicholas, Mesdalmes Edmondson, F. Robinson, Walton, Christie, Stone and Moore. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. Ross, Perreau and Misses Ross and .Williams. ANNUAL REPORT.
The annual report was read and adopted as follows: — The usual work of the Society lias been carried on during the year and three meetings were held durino- the, winter, which were well attended. Eighteen parcels were given out, which included clothing and boots. On the suggestion of Rev. W. H. Walton, hot soup was! supplied daily to over 50 school children during June, July and August. Tho response to such a quantity required, viz., 3 gallons, was very pleasing. .
Thd Society wish to thank all those who contributed soup and those who donated clothing and boots, also All Saints’ Vestry for the use of the schoolroom, Mr G. Smith for receiving and distributing parcels and the “Manawatu Herald.”
In speaking to the report, the Chairman said that the Society had been in existence ten years doing a necessary work. He stated that he and others, who took the soup to the school knew how much it was appreciated during the cold weather. The Headmaster and teachers had stated that it was a great benefit to the children. Rev. W. 11. Nicholas endorsed the Chairman’s remarks, adding that lie personally appreciated the work of the Society as it helped greatly the work of a minister. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The election of officers resulted as follows: — I President: Mrs F. Robinson; vice president: Mrs Christie; hon. secretaries; Mesdames Walton and Moore; committee: Revs. Walton, Nicholas, Edmondson, Father Brennan, Captain Mathcson, Mesdames Walton, Nicholas, Edmondson, A. Ross, Perreau, St’one, McDowell, Misses Ross and Williams. Investigation committee: Revs. Nicholas, Edmondson, Walton, and Captain Mathcson. THANKS. The Society desires to thank the following ladies who provided soup for the school: — Mesdames F. Robinson, Edmondson, 'Christie, Walton, Nicholas, F. Mason, Trueman, M. J. T. Walker, Moore, A. Ross, Cowley, Jackson, Tver, G. Huntley, Poole, J. Robinson, Sutton, Perreau, Signal, L. Bullard, ITonore, J. K. Hornblow, A. S. Easton, S. Easton, Chrystall, Warwick, A. Spoil's, Bett, S. Austin, Jas. Robinson, C. E. Robinson, Roore, Miss Ross, Miss Speirs and Miss Williams.
As the Society lias practically no clothing to carry on with, the committee desire to make an appeal to the public generally for clothing, material or hoots, that can he spared and passed on to those who would ho thankful for same. Parcels may he left at Mr G. F .Smith’s shop.
