BOARD’S THREE YEARS’ PROGRAMME.
At a meeting of the Main Highways Board held at Palmerston N. on Friday, it was announced by the acting-chairman, Mr C. McKenzie, that the sum of £147,000 will he spent on roads in the No. 0 district. The programme now in hand and the work will extend over a period s of three years. . The following are the works in hand, the amounts allocated, and the amounts advanced to date by the Highways Board in districts adjacent to Palmerston N: —Levin- ? Whirokino Bridge: Amount involved £45,000 advanced to date on £3 for £2i subsidy, £5,000. Foxton-Hima-tangi Road: £B,OOO for widening only; subsidy, £5,200 on a £2 for £1 basis. Hilmatangi-Rangiotu: £20,000; £3,000 has already been advanced on a £3 for £1 basis; work is in progress. £30,000 will be spent on the Rangiotu-Palmerston North section of the Foxton road; £3,000 has been advanced to date on a £3 for £1 subsidy for hot mix paving. _ Authority has been given for paving, widening and concrete-bridging the Levin-Pa'lmerston N. main highway to the extent of £21,000 on a £3 for £1 basis. Work is in progress. The Sanson-Palmerston' N. road is to have £16,200 on a £3 for £1 basis for hot mix paving. Over COO men are now working on highways in No. 9 (West Wellington)' 1 highways district, more that) half being employed in the district north of Waikanae.
