SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION
FOXTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. The annual meeting of householders was held in the High School building last evening. There was a small attendance, presided over by Mr J. K. Hornblow. ANNUAL REPORT. The Comlmittee’s annual report stated inter alia that the work had been as as in any previous year and that a spirit of cooperation had animated the committee and staff. Twelve ordinary, one special and two sub-comlmittee meetings had been held. The school environment had received .special attention and many improvements had been effected. The trees along Duncan St. had been relmoved and replaced by a hedge. The old mas-tc-r’s residence had been sold and removed and the Department had handed over the proceeds of salo to the Comlm'ittce which has been used for ground improvement purposes. The High Shcool building was completed and ofileially opened during the year. The report also referred to the Side School and the necessity for providing locomotion for children attending from a distance. Mention was made of certain generous donations to the sports and grounds funds and to the loyal co-operation of the headmaster, staff and public.
BALANCE-SHEET. The audited balance-sheet showed that the year commenced with a credit of £47 6/10, capitation £l9O 2/1, rent and accrued interest £5 12/3, Bock Memorial fund £5, concert £2O, sale of badges £8 15/-, subsidies, grants and refunds £241 0/2, making a total of £586 12/1. Expenditure: —Printing, stationery, etc. £ls 1/9, fuel and lighting £3O 5/3, water charges £l3 15/11, repairs and maintenance £8 6/1, picnic £lB 7/6, cleaning £l3l 2/1, library £26 9/6, rent £4, concert £l4 19/11, turfing, concreting, fencing, garden plots, prizes, badges, etc. £254 14/2, leaving a credit balance of £69 9/11. The report and balance-sheet were, adopted on the motion of Mr Nicholas and favourably commented upon. The Headmaster’s annual report was read. Votes of thanks were accorded the teaching staff and outgoing com[mittee. The new committee met subsequently and- Mr Hornblow was reelected chairman. A welcome was. extended to Messrs Smith and A. E. Scott, the two new members of the Oomlmittoe, who suitably responded. The position of hon. secretary was held over. It was decided to meet the first Monday in each month. Messrs Smith and Scott were appointed visitors for the month.
