CARNIVAL NOTES.

A very successful garden party in aid of the Sports candidate, was held at the residence of Mrs F. Prdeter, Purcell S't., on Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance. The putting competition was won by Mrs Adams and the “menu” competition by Mrs D. Ball with Mrs Stanton runner-up. The treasure hunt caused great amusement. The Sports euchre tournament held in the Town Hall supper-room on Thursday night attracted a record attendance. Prizes were won as follows: —'Women: Mesdames Broad, Adams, and Judd; men: Mrs Arcus and Messrs Alister and Pritchard.

CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS DANCE. The Masonic Hall last night resounded with the yells of delight and merriment of about one hundred children who attended the children’s fancy dress dance held under the auspices of the Sports 'Carnival Committee. The fancy dresses were novel and pretty, and the youngsters were provided with squeakers and other novelties dear to the youngsters’ hearts, and their yells of delight could be heard far afield. Mr Fred Robinson officiated as M.C., and was in his element. The Committee spared no effort to proride for the enjoyment of the children, and they succeeded. The •music was supplied by Mrs Ross, Miss Moore and Mr Bilim an. Mesdaimes Trueman and Hudson officiated as judges of the fancy dresses. The foliawing were the prize winners : Giris. —Addrey Barron, “Goil’ywog,” Ist; Joan Barron, “Eastern Girl,” 2nd; Maggie Stevenson, /‘Fish Girl,” 3rd. (Boys-Alan MjeArtney, “Bak er,” Ist; Henry Robinson, “Jockey,” 2nd; Colin Baird, “Girl,” 3rd. Tiny-Itots. —Patricia and Betty Warhurst, tennis boys, and Jean Stevenson fairy.

Readers should keep in view the Citizens’ Committee’s garden party to be held at the residence of Mr C. Robinson, Lady’s Mile, on Wednesday afternoon next. A baby show will he held for which the prize mil tie a silver mug. Decorated tricycle competition, and other novelties will he included in the programme.
