RAILWAY FREIGHTS.
MILEAGE BY DIRECT ROAD ROUTE' SUGGESTED. At last night’s Borough Council meeting the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) in reporting on the. visit to Foxton of the Ministers for .Public Works and Internal Afl:airs last Saturday, said that he had approached the Minister for Public Works with a suggestion that. Borough Councils should receive a freight concession on roading materials on the railways. This, he understood, had obtained some years ago. The Muis, tor, whose time was limited, said that he would again be visiting Foxton at an early date, possibly on the oeasion of the official opening of the Shannon bridge, when he would be pleased to discuss any matter with the Council. It was decided on the morion of Crs. Walker and Parkin that the Railway Department <be asked to charge freight on goods, and materials from Foxton to stations south of Levin and vice versa on the basis of road mileage by direct route.
