UNEMPLOYMENT.
LAND SETTLEMENT THE SOLUTION. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation from the Trades and Labour council and the New New Zealand Labour party, was the du'ced by the Leader of the Labour party (iMr. H. E. Holland) waited on the Prime Minister to-day in connection with unemployment. Mi® J. Thorn, president of the New Zealand Labour party was the chief speaker. He urged it was the duty of the Prime Minister to solve (he unemployment probletm. In Wellington alone there were 500 registered unemployed. He admitted the government had put additional men on relief works but urged it should go much further. The Prime Minister, in reply, said lie had been doing all possible arid soon would' be introducing a scheme which would affect numbers more of the unemployed. He had laid it down as a principle that to settle the unemployment problem, there must be an advanced system of land settlement.
