SOCIAL AND DANCE
On Tuesday evening a very successful social and dance, arranged by Mrs. Apu'ta for the purpose of raising funds for the forthcoming visit of Bishop Bennett, was held in the Royal Theatre. The attendance was large, and a very enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with vocal solos, duets and poi dances. Mr. Perreau (Mayor) briefly addressed the attendance, referring to the purpose for which the function was arranged, and trusted the visit of Bishop Bennett would prove a great success. He took ,the opportunity of referring to the generous manner in whieh Mrs. Aputa and others had treated Fox'ton by their gifts of valuable lands in the borough, notably Ihakara Gardens and the high school site, and incidentally mentioned that it was probable that in the near future a further gift of considerable value to Foxton w'ould be made by these same people. Such generosity and public spiritedness was Worthy of .the greatest commendation; and was appreciated to the full by townspeople. A tasty supper provided was the culmination of a very successful function.
