Tam Cork-hill, the ex-Hawke’s Bay and All Black back, has taken up his residence in Masterton and has joined the Red Star Club. At last night’s annual meeting of the Foxton Football Club motions of sympathy were passed to the relatives of the late 0. L. Anderson and Airs. W. Harrison.
Mr. C. J. Gray, of Wellinyton, has been elected a member of the Foxlton Fire Board by the Wellington Fire and Accident Underwriters’ Association in jrlace of Mr. F. G. Cray, resigned. Mr. Gray attended his first meeting of the Board yesterday when he. was introduced to members by Mr. A. H. Clerke ('Chairman). After teaching for about 20 years in the Manawatu district, Mr. H. F. Gabites, first assistant at Central School, PaltmerstOn North, will take up his duties on April 8 at Christchurch, where lie has been appointed to the position of headmaster of the Marshlands school. Mr. Gabites (was originally on the staff of the old Campbell street school for seven years, and then taught for eleven years at Foxton, before proceeding to Lyn'tlton street school, Feilding, where he spent four years, subsequently taking up his present position at the Central school, where he has been for the past four years. Ex-Foxton pupils who passed through Mi'- Gabites class during the period of his first assistantship, will be pleased to hear of his promotion. As a teacher, Mr. Gabites reached a high standard and his character was a splendid example to the pupils. His interest in the boys and girls did not end in the class-room, but extended to a frnuch wider sphere in their activities, His record of service under the Wanganui Board is one of which any teacher should be justly proud.
