Sydney, March 17. Twelve thousand were present at the .Stadium when the American bantam-weight, Fidel la Baiba (8.9) knocked out the '/South African, Will Smith (8.10) in the twelfth round. La Barba administered unmerciful punishment to tho face and body, using mostly a left hook, with a right rip to the body, but a large section wanted Smith to win. There 'was a laughable incident at the end of the contest, when a spectator entered the ring to commiserate with Smith and refused to leave. He was forcibly ejected in Catherine /Wheel style over the ropes to the press table. At the Melbourne Stadium, Jack Jones (9.7) beat Billy.Negris (9.7), the referee stopping the contest in the eighth round.

New York, Ma/reh 16. Otto van Porat has been matched against Risko at Boston on April 5 for ten rounds. Infection that may cause disfigurement has set in in a deep wound that Tom Hecney suffered to his in ■ side lip in the fight with Van Porat and may necessitate plastic surgery if it spreads further. Ilis physician states that Heeney was ordered to bed, following treatment at the 'hospital. A gash inside Iris lip, extending from the base of the gum, required 15 stitches. As stated the injury may cause Heeney’s retirement from the ring.
