THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 16th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Hemp:—Manila market quiet and closes easier. “J” grade for AprilJuiie shipment now quoted sellers £37 5/-. Output from Ist January to 28tli February 318,000 bales against 231,000 same period last year. Stocks in Manila 214,000 against 114,000 saline time last year and in great Britain 8646 against 14,186. Sisal: —Market quiet but firm. Good marks difficult to obtain at the close, sellers holding out for £4l for No. 1 and £39 for No. 2, March-May shipment. New Zealand: —Market quiet with absence of demand but no pressure to sell. Nominal comparative values for February-April and MarchMay shipments unchanged.
