BOWLING

MANS ON AND BARR CUP MATCH. On the local green on Saturday a further game for the above trophy was played between the holders, Thomson’s rink, and a team representing the Terrace End Club. The game throughout iwas closely contested, scores being even on the eleventh, and fifteenth heads, after which the visitors scored a two, m'aldng the totals 10 —14 in their favour, and adding a single on the seventeenth end, which gave them a lead of two. Foxton, however, notched a couple on the next head, leaving them still one point behind, to which Terrace End replied witii another single making the scares Terrace End 18, Foxton 17 with two beads to go. The game seemedpretty well decided in Foxton’s favour on the twentieth head when they counted in four shots, but it wasn’t Foxton’s lucky day apparently, as on the final end Terrace End managed to place three bowls nearest kitty, and the play being awkward for their opponents, they secured the coveted trophy by the narrowest of margins, and actually by the skip’s last bowl. The following are the rinks and scores: — Terrace End: Childs, Cope, O’Shea, Johnson (s) 21; Foxton: Ileves, John Ross, Nye, Tholmson (s) 20. Foxton Club has done very well this year in trophy matches within the Centre having won the Triangular Shield for this season, and held the Fletcher Shield and Manson and Barr Gup. They have not yet had an opportunity of playing for the Dixon Cup this season, and although a challenge has heon placed, it is doubtful Whether an opportunity will be offered now on account of the lateness of the date. The following rink will represent Foxton in the Centre Champion of Champions contest on Saturday next: —Heyes, John Ross, Woods, Thomson (s). The Barr trophies contest has created a good deal of interest on the green this season, and play has now reached the final, wherein Heppner .and Mattar (s) meets Perreau and Thomson to decide who shall become the owners of these cups. It is anticipated the match will be played to-morrow afternoon, and will attract a good deal of attention.
