UNITED PARTY W]ILL NOT CONTEST SEAT. Wellington, Last Night, When interviewed with regard to the Bay of Islands by-election, Sir Joseph Ward stated that, oAving to the circumstances responsible for bringing about the election, and over AA'hieh neither candidate had any control, he had definitely decided not to put up a candidate. Supporters of the United Party were therefore free to exercise their OAvn discretion in the matter of voting, the organisation remaining strictly neutral. “HoAvever,” stated Sir Joseph, “it is my intention to put a candidate up for the next election regardless of the number of candidates.”
