FEBRUARY GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of February have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: — Ports " G.F. Chalmers 60 17 23 Bluff 40 365 493 155 Lyttelton —/ . 28 15 6 Waikuku One bale at Auckland and 36 at Picton were graded fine. Seventynine bales at Auckland, 178 at Wellington, 74 at Foxton and 4 at the Bluff were rejected. One bale at Wellington was condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number lor the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:— Fine 37 (69), good fair 1039 (865), high fair 3765, (3316), low . fair 2084 (3946), common 562 (1229), rejected 335 (464), condemned 1 (nil), a total of 7823 bales as against 9889 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 2066 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1848, Wellington 2955, Foxton 1628, Picton 91, Dunedin 54, Pt. Chalmers 100, Bluff 1057, Lyttelton 49, Waikuku 41. Dunedin , Waikuku Thirty-one bales at Auckland, 79 at Wellington, 11 at Foxton, 10 at Pt. Chalmers, and 30 at the Bluff were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding* period of last year being given in parenthesis:—lst grade 470 (311), 2nd grade 1294 (1334), 3rd grade 573 (1086), condemned 161 (80), a total of 2498 bales as against 2811 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 313 bales. Stripper tow: —Seventy - two bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade, ,and 24 bales at Auckland and 156 at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. One bale at Auckland and 10 at Foxton were graded 3rd grade. A total number of 263 bales as against 54 bales graded the same period last year, showing an increase of 209 bales. Stripper slips:—Cne bale at Wellington was graded 2nd grade. Three bales at Auckland and 146 at the Bluff were graded 3rd grade. One bale at the Bluff /was condemned. The total number graded was 151 bales as against 258 bales graded the salme period last year, a decrease of >lO7 bales.
