ACCIDENT ON BEACH ROAD.

AY. HIRINI SUSTAINS BROKEN THIGH. An accident resulting in W. Hiriiii, the well-known local swimmer, sustaining a broken thigh, occurred at the bend in the Beach Road about two miles from town shortly before three o’clock on Sunday afternoon. With Messrs Tauia McDonald (driver) and owner of the vehicle, of Koputaroa, William Harrison (another well-known local swimimer); Ted Paul, John McGregor and Hirini, set out for the beach after lunch in a lorry for the purpose of witnessing the lifesaving display by the Maranui Club on the ocean beach. When the corner was reached the lorry skidded |in so’me loose metal and capsized over a low bank. All the occupants were thrown' clear and escaped injury except Hirini, Who was 'struck by the vehicle as it turned over and sustained a broken thighs Dr. Wlyllie was immediately summoned and the ambulance was sent fbr and Hirini conveyed to the hospital. Latest reports show that he is ■progressing as well as can be expected. 1 Much regret will be expressed in swimming circles that Hirini has ,met with the above unfortunate mishap as he Was ,a swimmer of some note and although only 18 years of age, had already made a name for himself in aequatie circles.
