Local swimmers again gained distinction at the Palmerston North Municipal baths on Saturday evening, ifhe Wellington visitors being particularly impressed by the swimming of Harrison and the Hirini ‘brothers. 'The local swdmlmers competed with the following success:— Schoolgirls 33 l-3yds.:—Miss M. Gay (Foxton) 2sec. and Miss P. Sporle (Feilding) lsec., dead heat Ist. Time 23 2-ssec. Schoolboys 66 ,2-3yds.:—Second heat: G. Hirini ,scr., 1. Time 54 1-5 see. Final: G. Hirini 2. Time 50 3-ssec. Won by a yard. Men’s 33 l-3yds. handicap:— First heat: W. Hirini (Foxton), 3sec. 1, G. Hirini (Foxiton), 3sec. 2. Time, 20 3-ssec. G. Shaw (Foxton) .Won the event but was disqualified for starting before time. Final: W. Hirini 1. Time 18 4-5 sec. Won by half a' yard. Men’s 100yds. open handicap: G. Hirini (Foxton) lOsec., 1, W. Hirini (Foxton), 9sec., 2, W. Hamson (Foxton), 6sec., 3. Time lmin. 17 3-ssecs. Won by a yard and a half. Flying Squadron: P.N. Boys’ High School A. 30sec., and Foxton (G. and W. Hirini, Harrison and Claridge), equal 1, Y.M.C.A. A. 3. Time Simin. 17 3-ssee.
