STATE ADVANCES

£1,235,000 AUTHORISED SINCE DECEMBER 10. Wellington, February 28. - With regard to advances to settlers and workers Sir Joseph Ward stated to-day that from December 10 to February 27, £1,235,765 was authorised, comprising 619 applications by settlers aud 598 by workers. The actual amounts paid over during the period were £413,175 to 311 settlers and £358,975 to 409 workers. The applicants concerned in the balance of the £1,235,765 had been advised the money was available and it would be paid over in due course. Since December 10, new loan moneys amounting to .£1,166,830 had been added to the capital of the State Advances office. These facts showed there had been no lay on the part of the State Advances in giving effect to the Government’s policy.
