PLUNKET BABY CARNIVAL.
OPENING THE CHAMPAIGN,
CANDIDATES .REPRESENT * CITIZENS, COUNTRY AND SPORTS. The local branch of the Plunket Society want a home of their otvn. Temporary rooms are inimical to the work and progress of the Society. In nearly all other towns in the Dominion, iby the generosity of the public, homes have been provided and equipped for the Society’s W9fk. What has been done in other centres can be accomplished in Poxton, by the co-operation of the town and country residents. There is no need to stress the excellent work which has been accomplished by the local Society since its inception. Grateful mothers and bonny babies can testify the results. Even greater benefits can be conferred in the future when the Society is permanently housed. The Society met yesterday afternoon when the preliminaries were finalised for the carnival effort. The baby candidates are as follows : Citizens. —Airs. S. Barber’s Bryan (“Bob”), colours red and black. Country.—Airs. Hunter’s Joan, colours white and black. Sports.—'Ali-s. G. Alexander’s Joy, colours yellow and black. Committees have been foi-jped to promote the success of each candidate. Air. AI. E. PerreaU. has been appointed carnival organiser. On Wednesday next a garden party will be held by the Country candidate’s cojmmittee at Airs. Raikes’ borne at Oroua Downs. There will be competitions, croquet, etc., and afternoon tea. Admission 1/-. Airs. Fergusson is the secretary of this committee.
