ELSIE WALKER CASE.

COMMISSION APPOINTED. THE ORDER OF REFERENCE. The Hon. T. M. Wilford (Minister of Justice) informed a “Post” reporter to-day that the following is the order of reference contained in the Commission to inquire into the conduct of members of the Police Force in regard to the Elsie Walker ease: — “Edward Page, Esq., S.M., to be a Commission to inquire into and report upon (a) the efficiency of the discharge of their duties by and (b) the conduct of all or any of the members of the Police Force of New Zealand in relation to inquiries made and steps taken by them, or any of them, concerning or subsequent upon the disappearance and death of Elsie Walker, late of PapaImoa, deceased, and to inquire into and report upon the question whether it is necessary or advisable that any rules or instructions should be laid down for the guidance of meulbers of the Police Force touching the steps to be taken and the inquiries to be made upon similar occasions in the future.” The Commission is required to report to the Minister of Justice not ltaer than 10th April, 1929. The Auckland police are preparing 600 different reports and making fifteen copies of every one. In police circles the opinion is that the insuiry, which will open on Ist March, will last more than ten days.
