BREACH OF LICENSING ACT.
SUPPLYING LIQUOR AFTER HOURS. SUBSTANTIAL FINES IMPOSED. At the local S.AL Court this morning before Air. J. L. Stout, S.AL, R. AlcAlullian, licensee of the Family Hotel, was charged that on 24th December, he did sell liquor after hours. Arising out of the same case, L. E. AlcAlullian, wife of licensee, was charged with, not being the licensee of the Family Hotel, she did serve liquor to W. *A. Baker. Bate was also charged with being illegally on the-licensed premises. All parties pleaded guilty and -were unrepresented by counsel. Constable Bell, in evidence, stated that on ’Xmas Eve at 7.35 p.m. he saw Baker come out of the back entrance to the Family Hotel with four bottles of beer. When questioned he said he had been supplied by Airs. AlcAlullian. He was employed several miles out of Foxton and had arrived back in town fairly late. He wanted the beer for his ’Xmas dinner and after wheedling around Mrs. AlcAlullian was finally served. The licensed knew nothing of the sale. Airs. AlcAlullian stated that she was in the bar at the lime of Baker’s arrival, counting up the day’s takings. She was never in the bar on other occasions. The S.AL remarked that there were three previous convictions against the licensee and if he was not very careful he would not get a renewal of his license in, June.. Fines of £lO with costs 10/- weije imposed in each of the first two charges and Baker was fined £2 with costs 10/-.
