FOXTON WINS FLE'UCHEII SHIELD. Four rinks of Foxton bowlers were yesterday successful in upholding their challenge against the Palmerston North Club for the Fletcher Shield. Two rinks on each side were successful but the two defeated Palmerston North rinks slumped badly to lose .by very wide margins and give Foxton the match 79 —64. At the conclusion 1 of play, the president of the Palmerston N. Club, AH. G. Tremaine congratulated the visitors on their win, JVIr. Heyes, president of the Foxton Club suitably responding. The Palmerston North Club took the shield from Northern and successfully defended challenges against Oroua and Terrace End before losing to Foxton. Had Palmerston North been successful in defending a third challenge, the club would have been entitled to have its name engraved upon the trophy. Scores were as follow, Foxton rinks being mentioned first : —- S'tevenson, Walton, Walker, Woods (s) beat Croucker, Stevens, A. S. Bayliss, J. A. Nash (s) 32 —9. Robinson, Easton, Christie, Thomson (s) lost to A. Pickering, Holbrook, Goldfinch, Crump (s) 10 —22. Walker, Seadden, Ross, Barr (s) beat Boon, Beattie, H. Griggs, Matlieson (s) 19 —7. Parkin, Newth, Heyes, Nye (s) lost to-Mowlem, Bettle, Tozer, Paton (s) 18 —26.
