A PLUCKY WOMAN
SAVES TWO DROWNING BOYS. Christchurch, Yesterday. • By the prompt and plucky action of Mrs. James F. Stratton, of Amberley, turn 'boys, aged 12 and 14, sons of Mr. Banks, farmer, of Kaiapoi, were saved from drowning at the Leithfield Beach. Mr. Banks Avas attending a clearing sale in the Amberley district, and his wife and children decided to spend the day at the beach. At 2 p.m. the two boys went in for a bathe. Neither could SAvim. The younger boy was the first to enter the water, and Avas quickly out of his depth and in difficulties. His brother tried to save him, and he, too, got into trouble. Mrs. Stratton, who Avas in a bach on the beach, heard the cries of the mother, and immediately rushed to the spot. Both hoys had disappeared. Discarding only her dress, Mrs. Stratton dived in, and after a great deal of difficulty succeeded in getting the boys to shore. Both Avere in a state of collapse, but they Avere restored by means of artificial respiration.
There is no doubt that but for Mrs. Stratton’s prompt and plucky action a double fatality would have occurred.
