SUCCESS GF LOCAL GIRL SPRINTER. (Miss M. Barron attended the Feilding sports meeting on Thursday evening. Starting from virtual scratch (4 yds.) and conceding starts up to 15 yds. in 120, Miss Margaret Barron, won with ease. Margaret was the only back marker, the nearest to her being Miss Gill, of Palmerston North, who was on the 6£yds. mark. In her heat Margaret ran a beautifully judged race and came through the field to iwin by 4 clear yards. In the final she again proved her mettle and won a splendid race in convincing style by 2 yards from Miss Gill. Her win was most popular with the crowd. Miss Cannons (9yds.) was third. r
After the event the announcer, through the megaphone, introduced Margaret to the crowd, and thanked her for her appearance at the meeting. He wished her success at .the Wellington Provincial championships on Saturday, where she will be meeting New Zealand’s best lady runners, including the Olympic runner, -Miss Norma Wilson. He then called for three cheers for Miss Barron, the crowd responding lustily. At the -conclusion of the meeting Margaret received a very handsome trophy—a silver fruit dish for her Avin.
