LABOURER GETS THREE MONTHS.
FOR THEFT. After being arrested in Foxton on .Saturday by Constable J. V. Bell, Thos. George Ward, alias Martin, a labourer and stranger to Foxton, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., at the .Palmerston N. Magistrate’s Court yesterday on three charges of obtaining goods by false pretences. He wasjsentenced to one month's gaol on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative.
The first charge was that he obtained 4/2 'worth of vegetables from Joe Beck, of Palmerston North, on September 14, 1928, by stating that re had been instructed to do so by a well-known solicitor of the town; the second, that on June 11, he secured goods valued at 1/11 from Peter Feeney, of Feilding; the third, that on the same day he secured meat costing 2/2 from Harry Stewart, at Feilding. Accused admitted he had served sentences for previous offences of theft and false .pretences. On a fourth .charge of stealing wool valued at £l6 (12s lOd from George Phillips, of Fordell, 'accused was remanded to appear at Wanganui.
