AT THE SEASIDE
Despite the westerly wind on Sunday, which made things uncomfortable at the seaside, there was a large gathering of people present from all parts of the district and the programme of music by the talented Woodville Boys’ Band was much appreciated both onlthe ocean beach and the river foreshore. In the evening there was an exodus of families to other parts in order that the children could take up their school Work. A large number of families were camped throughout the holidays ’neath the shelter of the pines at what is known as the north spit. The trees in this locality have made wonderful growth since they were planted some years ago and ■ the shelter is much appreciated. Flounder spearing provided a good deal of nocturnal sport during the holidays along the river foreshore. There is no guarantee however, that all the flounders speared where the regulation size. The stores at the seaside report good business. In fact the enterprising owners now know all the requiremients of sea-siders and it is possible to procure anything from patent medicines and in fact all requisites from the proverbial needle to an anchor.
Mr. Kelleher’s store and refreshment rooms, whereip is located the post office and' telephone jberea.u was always a busy centre and his obliging, and courteous treatment of visitors was much appreciated.
