NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
WON BY LOCAL BOY.
Malcolm Mason, of the local District High School, has been,successful in winning a Senior National Scholarship. This lad has had a splendid school career, his scholastic attainments being as follows: 1926, Junior National .Scholarship; 1927, Senior Free Place; 1928, Matriculation, Senior National Scholarship, dux boy of school and winner of Bock Memorial Prize.' Our congratulations are extended to Malcolm, who apart from being an intelligent scholar, is a keen sport— football, tennis, swimming and athletics being his pastimes, and an ardent Boy Scout. With steady application to his studies more should be heard of him in the future.
More credit is due to Malcolm in his success owing to the fact that on the first morning of the examination he met with an accident and sat for bis first paper without discovering the full extent of his injury. After completion of the morning’s work he visited the doctor who. pronounced that he had broken bis arm and that an X-ray examination would be necessary, lie, sat for the afternoon paper and then caught the evening train for Palmerston North to be X-rayed. Spent the night in the later town and returned next morning to continue his .examination which lie co ml, doled (under trying conditions.
