BOY SCOUTS’ CAMP.

Last Thursday week eleven of the local Boy Scouts, in charge of Rev. W. H. Walton and Scoutmaster 1L Warwick, went into camp on the banks of the Ohau River, near Levin. They were very fortunate in securing an ideal camping site on the property of Mr. J. Varnham, who kindly supplied them with Tree milk. The time was spent in swimming, tramping, fishing, ,etc., the boys obtaining som|e good bags of cels which made a welcome addition to the larder.

The cooking .was done by the boys, an orderly, with three assistants preparing the meals and tidying the camp. A typical day’s routine —provided tbe weather was fine, Which it generally wasn’t —was as follows: —6 a.m., orderlies get up to make breakfast; 6.45 a.m., reveille, boys wash, exercise, air beds, and tidy tents; 7 a.m., breakfast; 7.30 a.m., boys get wood; 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., scouting instructions; 9 to 12 noon, free time; 12 noon, lunch; 12.30 p.in. to 4 p.m., organized scouting games, etc.; 4 p.m., orderlies start preparing dinner; 5.45 p.m., dinner; 6.15 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., free time; 7.30 p.m., boys get wood for campfire; 8 p.m., eeling; 8.30 p.m., campfire; 9 p.m., supper; 9.15 p.m., lights oiR. Altogether a thoroughly profitable and enjoyable time was spent, and the Scouts returned, bronzed and healthy, looking forward to their‘next sojourn under canvas. The names of the Scouts who went are:—C. Carmont, F. Cowley, ,j. Good, R. Judd ,M. Mason, C. Parker, M. Retter, M. Symes, W. Symons, L. Thompson and H. Tongs.
