BAY OF ISLANDS SEAT.
PETITION TO BE UNOPPOSED. Auckland, January 18. The hearing of the petition against the election of Mr. H. M. Rushhrook as representative of the Bay of Islands electorate will not bo opposed. An intimation to that Cle'ct has been received by Messrs Rusself, Campbell, and McVeagli, solicitors for the petitioner, J. W. McAulay, an elector of the Bay of islands, as the onus of proof is on the petitioner. The Electoral Court, consisting of Mr. Justice Herdnnm and Mr. Justice Ostler, will sit to hear it at Kaikohe on January 28, as arranged. The absence of opposition (will probably have the effect of somewhat shortening the proceedings.
