WAY OF THE CHINESE
THE JAPANESE BOYCOTT. DAMAGE TO MISSION ORGAN. A foreign mission stationed in the town of Chiniciang, on the Yangtsze River, engaged on the work of repairing and refurnishing their premises, which have been almost ruined by prolonged occupation bv Chinese soldiery, required another organ, the previous one having been smashed beyond repair. A request! was accordingly sent to Shanghai for a second-hand one. A good instrument was selected, carefully packed and despatched to the mission. Upon arrival it was found that the stops of the organ had been torn out, the bellows punctured, the notes smashed and a great, piece hacked out of the back; "the crate in which the organ was despatched was not damaged. The nature of tho smashing proved that it was done deliberately. The organ was of Japanese make, and it is believed that the wanton destruction was rflie work of a Japanese boycott gang.
