FOXTON’S GIRL SPRINTER
WINS SUCCESS AND POPULARITY at Wellington. A't the electric light sports held on the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Saturday night, under the auspices of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Association, Miss Margaret Barron, the local young lady sprinter, made her first appearance in classic company, and did remarkably well and won the plaudits of the crowd and was the recipient of congratulations from competitors and officials alike. In the 75 yards ladies’ scratch event she. ran into third position, in the first heat, being beaten by Misses Willson and E. Sharp, Wellington competitors. The time was 9 3-ssecs. In the final 'she ran into second place being beaten by Miss Willson by half a yard in 9 4-ssecs. Miss Miller was third.
In the 100 yards ladies’ handicap she received 2yds. and tied with Mass W. Cannon (9yds.) (Wanganu), for third place. Time 12 3-ssee. She did not compete in the final.
Running with the Hawke’s Bay team in the ladies’ relay race in company with .Misses Hoyle, Doherty and Stewart, the team (defeated Wanganui and Wellington. At the invitation of the Wellington Club “Margaret” is proceeding to Wanganui on Saturday as one of their representatives to compete in the annual inter-club races in that city, and has been made an honorary member of the Wellington Club for the present season. At the meeting at Wellington on Saturday night “Margaret” was announced to the crowd as “the baby from Foxton.”
