ACCIDENTAL DEATH
WOMAN DOCTOR. SUCCUMBS TO BURNS. Gore, January 13. A sad accident, resulting in the death of Dr. A. Mathieson, resident lady medical offi]cer of Gore Hospital, occurred at that institution at 11.15 o’clock on Saturday morning. Dr. Mathieson was 'working with carbolic acid, when by some means the bottle was smashed. The acid splashed over her body and face and immediately began its deadly work. The doctor also suffered severely from shock and in a short while, became unconscious. Dr LiJlie was immediately called in and resuscitation efforts continued for three hours hut these were of no avail. Dr. Mathieson slowly sank and death occurred just hen fore 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Dr. Mathieson came to Core hospital from Dunedin some four or five months ago and had proved herself a very -popular and efficient officer.
At the inquest, a verdict was returned that death was due to severe shock following extensive skin injury.
