HEMP MARKET.

DECEMBER GRADING RETURNS

‘The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the mb nth of December have been issued 'by the Department of Agriculture as follows:- — Ports G.F. . ILF. L.F. C.

Fifteen bales at Picton were graded tine. Forty-four bales at Auckland, 334 at Wellington, 50 at Foxton and eight at the Bluff were rejected. The nuinlber of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being gliven in parenthesis: — Fine jLS (33), good fair ,434 (725), high fair 2528 (3523), low fair 1033 (3802), icomm'on 637 (934), rejected 436 (287), condemned nil (0), a. total of 6083 bales gs against 9403 bales graded the tsaime period last year, a decrease of 3320 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1670, Wellington 2653, Foxton 570, Picton 57, Blenheim 42, ,I’t. Chalmers 80, Bluff 1002, Lyttelton 9. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded:^—

Thirty-two bales at Auckland, 57 at Wellington, 9 at Foxton and two at the Bluff were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the (Corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Ist grade 167 (373), 2nd grade 1233 (1653), 3rd grade 391 (795), condemned 100 (82), a total of 1891 bales as against 2903 bales graded t'he same period last year, a decrease of 1012 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 544, Wellington 613, Foxton 103, Picton 29, Bluff 450, Lyttelton 2, W|aikuku 144.

Stripper tow: —One hundred and eight bales at .Wellington, were graded Ist grade, eighteen bales at Wlellington and one hundred and eight at Waikuku were graded 2nd grade. Thirty six 'bales at Waikuku were graded 3rd grade. A total number of 270 bales as against 126 bales graded the same period last year, showing an increase of 144 bales.

Stripper slips:—Five bales at Auckland and 147 at the Bluff were graded 3rd grade. Five bales at Auckland and 10 at the Bluff were condemned. The total number graded was 167 bales as against 372 •bales graded the same period last year,- a decrease of 205 bales.
