RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
PUBLIC WORKS GANGS REINFORCED. Wellington, Last Night. “The Government’s decision actively to proceed with the linking up of the important main lines of the Dominion lias made definite progress,” said the Minister of Public Works (Hon. E. A. Ransom) today. “The number of men on the Stratford-Main Trunk railway has been increased at both ends, and more men are being placed on the Napier-Wairoa section, while the employees on the Wiestport-liianga-hua section have been increased in numbers, and there will be a further extension in’ this direction. “As it is important to complete the surveys on the gap in the South Island Main Trunk line,” continued the Minister, “a commencement, has already been made on this work. All the field work has been done on the Wairoa-Gisborne section of the Napier-Gisborne line. • Survey work which is needed for continuation of the Wlestport-Inangahua line is to be put in band shortly. “As for the Stratford-Main Trunk railway,” concluded the Minister, “this has been completely surveyed and all that is necessary is to expedite the progress of the work in the extremely difficult country in which the construction workers are now engaged.
