FILMING THE STOMACH
An instrument for taking a kincmatograph film of the inside ot the stomach and of what is going on in it iis the latest device provided for •the surgeon, says the “Daily Mail. 'The gastroscope gave the surgeon the! means of seeing the inside of the stomach. Four years ago an advance was made when an instillment was devised that could he inserted in the stomlach and was provided with a tiny camera and glow lamp by the light of which a. photograph could be taken. A great advance was m'ade when Herr Gunther Uoeck, a scientistwho specialises in medical instruments, adapted t'o medical purposes the plan already used in photographing the flight of a bullet. “This device,” said Herr Loeck when I saw him recently, “is fitted with a sparkgap instead of the electric glow lamp 'hitherto used. For illuimiivation during exposure an electric spark produced between the electrodes of the spark-gap is used.”
By this means a number of tiny 2 2-sin photographs can be taken. The importance of 'this device is Herr Loe'ck’s invention for ‘ transferring to a kineibatograph film the pictures taken within the stomach by a series of lenses in the tube which has been inserted. When the film has been developed, the surgeon who is treating the .patient can examine the film on the screen before pronouncing a definite opinion on the ease.
