THE SHANNON BRIDGE

The completion of the bridge which spans the Manawatu river at Moutoa and the new roads and approaches consumm'ates a work which redounds to the credit of the Highways Board and Horowhenua and Manawatu County /Councils. The road to the bridge from the Foxton end is about half a mile to the north of the old bridge approach and from the bridge the road leada in a direct line to Shannon and reduces the distance by road from Foxton to 'Shannon by about three miles. It will be some time 'before the new roadways settle down sufficiently to receive the permanent sealing, but the highway is in good condition for motoring. The bridge is in marked contrast to the old narrow wboden structure and affords ample room for twoway traffic. , The new bridge will provide an alternate route for north and south traffic when the flood waters cover the Wjhirokino road.
