LOCAL RIDER’S SUCCESS AT DEVIN. •Mr. J. C. Gower, the local rider, met with a fair measure of success at the Otaki Motor Sports, which were held at Levin on New Year’s Da.y. He annexed two seconds and one third.' In the Novice (Handicap (6 miles) Gower, off scratch, came second. The race .was ridden in misty rain. Only the placed men finished. Gower, was also placed in the Tasman Handicap (10 miles) in which he was allowed 60 sec. He led until the sixth lap when he was overhauled by Kilminister. Gowpr also entered for the Otaki Clip when from 45sec he came third. He maintained the lead for the first six laps Off the 12 mile race •but after that Ranby and T. Morgan took the lead. Gower rode a good race and .chine in 200 yards behinid Morgan; who Was second. The local rider also entered in the Citizens’ Handicap but was unplaced. . \
