ENTERTAINMENTS.

TOWN HALL. Jean Hersholt, Marian Nixon and George Lewis are 'the leading players in the leading attraction “Jazz Mad” at the Town Hall to-morrow (Friday) evening. The story deals with the struggle for existence made by a continental music genius and his daughter in jazz mad America, and their eventual triumph. There is a happy romantic vein in the picture. With “Her Only Husband” ('Comedy), and News. Usual prices. Madge Bellamy who is fast becoming very popular on the screen will be seen on 'Saturday in her latest film “Soft Living,” a fine drama of life in New York and the big timber country of America. Also screening a special comedy “Starvation Blues,” “America’s Little Lamb,” an interesting .picture of the American wool industry, and the latest world’s news. Usual prices. THE WORLD’S ENTERTAINERS. ) Acclaimed by public and press alike of Australia as the most original and unique vaudeville entertainment is Harmston’s Comedy Cockatoos appearing with the World’s Entertainers. On the same programme Miss Jean MacDonald presents her living marionette** Manelli land Mj ack the comedy jugglers. Miss Evelyn May introduces her original dance creation “The League of Nations.” The powerful vaudeville combination, now concluding a marvellous successful world’s tour, starting in New York, and proceeding through Europe, India and the far east, will appear at the Town Hall on Monday next together with a strong picture programme. ROYAL. “The Adorable Outcast,” which is coming to the 'Royal theatre on Saturday, is presented by Australasian: Films Ltd., and is the screen adaptation of Beatrice Grimshaw’s well-known novel, “Conn of the Coral 'Seas.” Picture-goers will find it immensely pleasing from a variety of angles. Sceni-cally, dramatically, and in the picturesque and the spectacular, the main characters move through a wealth of ever- changing scene . and action. Never once is it apparent that Producer Norman Dawn has temporarily suspended the human interest phase of the story in order to introduce a touch o'f the spectacular or reveal a flash of trick photography. The emotional element is strongly in evidence right throughout the picture. The scene where Luya claims Diedre’s baby as her own at the expense of losing her own lover, has been handled with the delicacy and restraint demanded of the situation, and later, when Diedre’s gruff father forgives his daughter her sin, and the little child brings the first suggestion of tenderness to his heart, there is pathos grades above the usual sob stuff to which -movie audiences are accustomed. None of the thrills of the big scenes -are dragged out beyond their time, consequently the story unfolds itself with a smooth and gripping interest. “The Adorable Outcast” should enjoy a lot of popularity with film fans in this district, inasmuch as it differs so largely from -tropical pictures, and is the something that hasn’t been done in South Sea stories. Prices 1/- and 2/-. Children half price.
