PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL.
The annual pi-ize-giving and children’s concert took place last evening, when the school hall was crowded with scholar's, parents, and friends. The pi’ogramme opened with a hymn by the junior section, followed'by piano duets, solos, and recitations, intei’spersed with hymns by the scholars, and chorus by the Gilds’ Bible class.
The following eonti’ibuted to the programme: —> Margret Barron (piano), Rosie Munn (piano), Ula Thomson (piano), Edie Rankin, Mary Thynne, Shirley Barron and R. Knewstub (recitations). Before distributing the prizes, the chairman (Rev. W. H. Nicholas) said lie wished to impress upon the parents and members of the congregation the necessity of helping the Sunday School work of the Church, first by encoui’aging the children to attend regularly, and also by assisting them in their lessons. He also thanked those who had donated the money for prizes in the various classes, and for the donations received towai’ds the prize fund, all of which had been voluntary, for the teachers had decided not to make a canvas of the friends till the picnic was held in February. The junior section of the school each received a prize, the teachei’s, Misses McExven and Satherley, giving two extra prizes for regular attendance. The intermediate girls, under Miss E. Patterson: Ist prize Joan Barron, 2nd Shirley Barron, 3rd Daphne Stevenson; attendance: Zena Frasei’, Gladys McEwen; senior girls: Ist prize (tie) May McKnight and Ula Thomson, 2nd (tie) Mary Thynne and Madge King. Intermediate and senior boys: Ist prize Allen McKnight, 2nd lan Nicholas, 3rd R. McEwen. All who had not received a prize then were given a wall text to max’k their interest in the school.
At the request of the Bible Class gilds, Mr. Nicholas made a presentation on their behalf of a raffia shopping bag to their leadei’, Mrs. J. Ross. In thanking Mrs. Ross for her work as class leadei’, he also thanked the staff who had worked, so well and loyally this year. Supper provided by the pai’ents, followed by cordials (the gift of Mr. Scott), were enjoyed by the children, and closed a very happy evening.
