FOXTON SWIMMING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tlxo annual meeting of the Foxton Swimming Club to have been held in the Town Hall supper-room last evening lapsed for the want of a quorum, owing to counter-attrac-tions. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report is as follows : “The 1927-28 season has been a most successful one and the club is once more in a sound financial position. This is in a great measure due to the fact that Foxton now. possesses an up-to-date swimming bath and the thanks of all swimming enthusiasts is due to the excellent effort put forth by the several committees in the Queen Carnival held for that purpose. During the season electi’ic light was installed in the baths by the Foxton Borough Council, to whom the thanks of the club is due, and this fact enabled the club to carry out a most successful swimming, carnival last February. The satisfactory result of this carnival was in a great measure due to the number of competitors from Feeding, Palmerston North, and Levin and to the assistance given us in the different official capacities by the representatives of these clubs, , together with the assistance of officials. Very few local swimmers were amongst those competing, owing no doubt, to a number being inexperienced in regard to tournament events, but we hope that they will come forward in large numbers during the coming season. The local school children were given a short period in the baths each day and were successful in teaching each other to swum, and we hope the elder ones will join up with the club during .the coming season. In Harrison and Hirini, the club has two very fine swimmers, who met with great success during the past season, Harrison winning the Manawatu 100 yards championship. The thanks of the club is due to Mi’s. Walls for the use of her rooms for holding meetings, to all those who so generously donated funds to the club, and to the local Press for the publicity given to the affair’s of the club. A further meeting will be held at an early date at which it is hoped there will be a large attendance.
