■SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL CONCERT. The annual concert in connection with the breaking-up. ceremonies of the Foxtori District High School, took place in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening and met with unstinted appreciation of an audience which taxed the seating capacity of the hall. The stage tvas artistically decorated with flowers, greeijwry, etc., which provided a pretty'setting for the grouped children in the various items. The programme included items by every class throughout the primary and secondary departments and considering that only a fortnight was permitted in which to formulate and rehearse the programme, some idea of the work entailed by the teachers and scholars can be guaged. The children look upon the annual concert as a pleasant relaxation their studies and enter into spirit of the entertainment with glee arid enthusiasm while the. teachers shoulder added work and’responsibility." However, the team spirit won through to success. The programme went off .without a hitch amt without any undue delay. Included in the first half was was an sketch produced by Mi*. Doel, M.A., entitled “The Dog Trial,” inspired by the recent local dog-poisoning incidents. Judge, counsel, accused, witnesses, police and jury were represented and the dialogue , which contained numerous local allusions was- well delivered and created much amusement. A nautical interlude, which • included sea chanties and hornpipe dancing, was one of the star items of the evening and in this connection a special word of praise is duo to Mrs. Goodman., who supervised the dancing. The spectacular operetta, “The Crystal Queen,” pro-, vided a fitting conclusion to a deIqfhtful programme. ... The programme was opened !by the infants who sang the “Doll’s March,” “Farewell to Study” and “Baby Girl;” Irish Jig by Mrs. Goodman’s pupils; umbrella drill by girls of St. 3 and 4; nautical item (a) “The Four Jolly Sailor Lads,” H. Tongs, D. Newton, H. flew ton, and (Craig; b, “■Sailor’s Hornpipe,” by Mrs. Goodman’s pupils; - (e), sea shanty “Billy Boy” St. l tr and 2; humorous sketch, “house hunting,” Elsie Rout and Gordon Stone; solo dance, Ada Roore; physical drill by High School girls; Mock Court, “The Dog Trial” by High School boys, characters: Judge, “J. Bhornlow” (F. Cowley), crawn prosecutor, “Mr. O When” m(A. Easton), counsel for accused,“ Bernie Bargain” (M. Mason}, accused,’ “I Kilda Borg” *(G. tiffs, “Major and Mina Bobbits” (E. Murphy and D. Chrystall), wit nesses for the Crown, “Wazzy Corned” (D. Yorke), “Willie Lay” (I. Booth), “True Hillman” (L. Davey), “I. WVongs” (K. Alexander), “Mark P. Rue” (J. Cummjrfield), “Inspector B. Arronf’ XL. Bloomfield), witnesses for accused, “George Sniph” (W. Adams), “Mr. Koff Free’? (A. Easton), court orderly, “Constable Well” (A. Murphy), “foreman of the Brewery” (A. Martin). The second half of the programme consisted of the pretty and spectacular operetta, “The Crystal Queen.” The following "was (the caste: • The queen, Jessie Crowe C,issie Rosebud, AdA Roore; Prince of . Slumberlaud, Rose Munn; Johnnie Stout, D. Newton; Tommie Thin, W. Symons; Policeman X.Y.Z., H. Tongs; first fairey, R. IWishart. Also cyclists, fairies, elves,, and chorus of school children. All the children sustained their parts very well and special praise is due to Miss Holst, Messrs Mason and Chipper for training them! Miss Holst presided at the piano.
