VALEDICTORY.

A pleasing ceremony took place at the Beach Hall yesterday afternoon, when residents and pupils of the side-school assembled to bid farewell to Miss Thompson, teacher in charge. Mr. F. A. Mason, headmaster, presided, and paid a tribute to the excellent work accomplished by Miss Thompson since taking charge of the side-school and expressed regret at her resignation which was not only a loss to the local school but to the profession. On behalf of the scholars and parents lie conveyed the best wishes to Miss Thompson for her future health and happiness. He then called upon Mr. Hartley to make a presentation on behalf of the Beach residents.

Mr. Hartley, in asking Mias Thompson to accept a set of toilet requisites as a mark of esteem, endorsed all that had been said of the good qualities of the recipient by Mr. Mason. Miss Zilla Hartley also presented Miss Thompson with a box of handkerchiefs on behalf of the pupils. Miss Thompson feelingly acknowledged the kind expressions and the spirit which prompted the gifts. Cheers were given for the departing teacher and afternoon tea was dispensed.
